- Date free text20 Aug 1787
- Production dateFrom: 1787 To: 1787
- Scope and ContentThanks for his account of his Tour. La Pierre's wish to resign his position with Lady Grantham, her feelings about this. Had hoped he could succeed Lamb [the Nanny] who is becoming older and less active. Impossible to keep her with the boys after next Winter. Asks Frederick's advice on a replacement for Lamb and La Pierre [then proceeds to give very precise details of what she wants]. Goad to join in doing anything for La Pierre he judges proper. Doesn't wonder he doubted the first report of her coming to Wrest etc... Her father talked of coming in August and nobody believed him. Has been low and unwell ever since being here. Will not go to Wimple [Wimpole] as first proposed, extent of her visit uncertain. The Boys have been rocketing all over the Garden etc.... Glad his cousins are satisfied with the plans. Mrs. R. And old Ellis [the Steward at Newby] mentioned. Would like to know when Mr. Belwood is finished, exact date, also make out with Mr. Ellis a general statement of the family Estate etc.. to clarify the position for her. Letter to Mr. Ashworth from Frederick was proper for the occasion although little effect is expected. Don Rodrigue no more lively to discharge the debt than before. Wishes the Worsley's success in their enquiries after their legacy; seems doubtful however. What are Richard's prospects? How was Mrs. Robinson so fortunate as to be introduced to their queen Aunt who however is really generous? Happy to hear from him whenever he deems it worthwhile etc..
