- Scope and ContentWill show Andrewes Robinson's letter of 9th instant. Surprised not to have heard from him considering how close the 21st September is etc... Hay harvest finishing, corn will quickly succeed. Mr. and Mrs. Hamlyn and Mr. Jervoise Clarke (son of M.P.) currently at Kitley, dine there today. Sir William and Lady Molesworth dined last Sunday. Lord and Lady Macclesfield and Lady[?] M. Parker called one morning. Mr. Burke called on Friday upon his Circuit. Went on trip up the Tamer with he and Mayor in Mr. Lloyd's boat. Breakfasted on brown bread, clouted cream and eggs etc... in a village half way up upon banks of Tamer. Rode to Bickley Bridge yesterday with Mr. Mayor, ground gave way at one point, horse ended up in eight foot of water. Mount Edgecumbe on Friday. Expecting Mrs. Cars from London. Talbot's cousins and Mrs. Robinson's friends Lord and Lady Shaftesbury, Lord and Lady Digby and Mr. and Mrs. Thornhill have all been to see Saltram. Mr. and Mrs. Blackhurne are now gone back. Fears little chance of seeing Colonel Barré, assumed heading for South of France. Going on well with de Arte Poetica [Horace, see next letter]. Remember him to Mrs. Robinson, Ralph and Richard.
