    Assumes he's not well as he seldom hears from him. Two York Bank notes enclosed £250 rent charge due to Lady Grantham, 100 guineas for Rocliff [sic] account. Disforth & Rainton rents received last Wednesday. Drank tea at Newby at 4 p.m. Forced to bed by old illness by 5 p.m. Quotes from letter brought by Mr. Taylor's clerk concerning F. Robinson going ahead with Norton Inclosure. Mr. Gilbert, member for Litchfield to present petition to House. Delay caused by Duke of Devonshire's agent raising objections respecting Manor of Rainton etc... Thomas Smith went over most clauses in Bill with Ellis who sent it back next day saying they were fair & reasonable. Discuss further at Assizes next week.
