  • Scope and Content
Not ashamed of telling Grantham she was going to Monsieur de Grimaldi's when she wasn't. Great pain separating from friends, detests change etc. No excuse for not answering Grantham’s letter from Madrid. Gave her a reason to write from Paris. Staying at Hotel du Tour waiting for Comte de Viry. Woman of the House expected her as the Ambassador of Malthe, knew everything about her [French translation of second page - in the first place, that Madame was English, and had nothing more pressing than to inform me she had already an English Milady staying there, who would certainly be known to me as she had a large retinue. I asked her the name but she could not recall it, but she went to ask it of the servants and she came back to me and said it was My Lady Garnier, I suspected immediately that it was My Lord Albermarle’s mistress and with good reason, the Marquis Carachioli has since told it to me, but as it was not my business, I left the woman with her belief. I have found here our King of Hearts, guess or rather remember who could that be, and if you cannot, give it to Mr Robinson to guess, I wager that he will tell you at once. I am well pleased with the Hotel de Toulouse, it is delightful and in a beautiful situation. I received a note yesterday morning - here is what it contained]. Lady Berkeley sends compliments to Madam Perire, knows of good house for her in her street near la Barriere Blanche. The 'King of Harts' told her Mrs. Grevil, Mrs. Crew, Mrs. George Pitt and Mr. Naylor’s family all there. Expects to hear of them soon. Plenty of time to execute commands as everyone is at Compigène. Mr. Robinson [Frederick] will be better for her absence, if she is sent back she promises to behave better. Compliments to Monsieur de Sparr at Toledo. Lord Stormont set out for England. Saw Mr. St. Paul who remains in his absence. Sees Madame de Guerchy & Madame d'Hansonville her daughter. Madame du Chatelet & Madame de Damas are in the country.
