- Scope and ContentThe letter notes two presentments: - absolute surrender on 19 May 1779 by John Smith of a close of arable and pasture in East End, Cranfield, known as Burmingalls, of 8 acres, in occupation of William Hardwick with a close of Charles Wheeler N to the use of John Pancost of Sherington [Buckinghamshire], gentleman; John Pancost was then admitted - death of John Pancost presented on 20 June 1785, having surrendered Burmingalls to the use of his will dated 30 September 1780 devising the close to his son Thomas Pancost and paying therefrom to his widow Ann for her life £30 per annum; admission of Thomas Pancost by William Pancost his attorney The letter goes on: “I have no Books or Rolls further back that what I sent up to you; I did not send you the last Book which contains only the above two Admissions relative to the Close called Burmingalls and there is nothing therein relative to that estate; having two Courts to enter therein and the Court to be held very shortly. I retained the Book to enter the Rolls therein but if the above is not satisfactory I will send it up to you immediately”.
