Refers to a letter from Shadwell's father giving advice about his future. Shadwell has given it to Grantham to read. Remainder of this letter detailing Shadwell's "present sentiments & future views". Acquired a seat in the Office at the expiration of Your Lordship's Embassy, objections being made against it, he has to decide whether to withdraw from the situation or from Grantham's protection etc... Will return to England if Grantham thinks him unequal to the situation, but appears to want to stay.
