    Dined at Lady Robinson's with Mr. & Mrs. Hardinge, Mrs. Eliza Stainforth, Miss Hartley & two Mr. Bastards. Cambridge; Bishop of Peterborough offered bed at Trinity Lodge. Walked towards Barnwell with Watson & Dr. Strachey. Supped with Lord G. Cavendish, Bob Milton etc. University clean, neat & full in contrast to Salamanca. Election; Mr. Mansfield brought in, supported by Chancellor, Archbishop of Canterbury, interest of Duke of Grafton & independent part of University. Jack Townshend's chances thought to have been ruined by his falling out with Duke of Rutland having been rude to Duchess. Many people attended election. Sir G. Saville slept in Post Chaise for want of a bed. Lord Hyde reckoned for Christchurch now, but Mr. Hooper et al there may not be agreeable. All candidates to stand again at general election. Lord Euston however likely to win. Moved to Watson's house opposite Emmanuel, belongs to Mrs. Lancaster. Lives in two good rooms. Mrs. Watson, good humoured countenance & character.
