    Will try to secure Waddilove's Isaiah from the hands it's in. Duke of Rutland is dead. Lord Hyde, Mr. Mansfield and Mr. Townshend candidates for the University. Hyde supported by Administration, Mansfield by Duke of Grafton, Townshend by younger members & Lord Granby's friends. Fritz has not been applied to for his vote yet. If Lord Clarendon applies for his son will vote for him. Went to Ranelagh with Pelhams & Middletons. Mrs. Ivey's death; had just acquired place of Housekeeper to Duke of Northumberland. Dined at Eden's with Lord & Lady Carlisle, Lady Elisabeth Waldegrove, Sir Ralph and Lady Payne, Storer & Mr. Gibbon. Opera, then Lady Carlisle's for supper and cards. Mr. Pelham opened Ball at Gloucester House with Princess Sophia. View of sailing race from garden for Cup given by Duke of Cumberland. Little boy [Jack Parker] came to see. Mr. Dunning's at Putney with Mr. Parker and Mr. Lloyd of Plymouth; filled basket with peaches, nectarines, grapes & melons from kitchen garden. Took it to Sir Joshua [Reynolds] at Richmond. Misses Palmer there with Miss Elliott, Mr. Elliott and Mr. Lee. Queen's House in evening. Dined at Mr. Lorts, college dinner, Dr. Backhouse. Dr. Gooch, Graham of Trinity, who travelled with Lord Richard Cavendish, now at bar, and Mr. Seward. Ranelagh in evening. Duchess of Buccleugh to Town, Duke gone North. Saw Price at Lady Carlisle's, old and bald.
