Club moved to Brooke's in St. James' Street. Tom an unsuccessful candidate as yet. Will clear Grantham's account with old club if he receives any money for him. Tom has a "lurking acrimonious humour in his blood"; breaks out into facial boils, and has unseemly black patch on cheek. Dr. Warren will prescribe water or diet. Will go to Harrogate with him if prescribed. May visit Newby. De la Pierre has not sent Bill of Lading. Dined at Mr. Parker’s. Assembly at Mrs Aislabie’s in evening. Whole Square illuminated, constant fire of squibs, pateraroes, etc... Admiral Keppel dined with Lord Rockingham. Illuminations at West End of town widespread, no mischief done. Dined late at Sackville St., House of Commons not up until 6 o'clock when Mr. Parker brought home Lord Middleton and Sir Charles D'Avers. Concert at Mrs. Milbanke's, hot, crowded, noisy, reverse of functions at Mr. Abrantes'. Lady Mary Fordyce sings better & handsomer than Madame Covres. Court not full owing to fine weather. Nanny hansell'd her new chair, seemed pleased. Dined at Lady Robinson's with Mr. & Mrs. Harry Pelham, Mrs. Guerin & General Peirson, George Hardinge and Mr. Eyre a Nottinghamshire gentleman whose daughter is to marry Mr. Drummond, the late Archbishop's eldest son. Escarano & Las Rosas leave next month. Tour Italy together. Latter returns to England. House of Lords, uninteresting conversation, no order & ill humour. Did Grantham like newspaper cutting of Lord Stormont's speech, did Lord Weymouth ever answer his private letter delivered by Fritz? Sir Joshua has painted another of his nieces reading Clarissa[?]. Mr. & Mrs. Weddel, former thin, latter very fat. He has not yet finished at Newby. Wishes its Tocago[?] was begun. Fritz wants two pictures of the bridges by Marlow for the Eating Room at Newby and two views of the Swale by Davis for Whitehall.
