    Updating accounts; who owes what for Vicuna's, the horse, present to Brunier etc... Will use the fourteen pounds from Mrs. Aislabie towards Grantham's subscription to Almack's Club; shortly moving to a new house in St James' St. to be kept by Brookes. Dined with Bishop of Chester [Beilby Porteus] at Lambeth. Also dining, La Obispa, Mr. Berenger, Mr. Chamberlayne, Dr Vyse & Mr. Mackenzie who was secretary to Sir William Howe in America. Encloses newspaper report [not present] of Lord Stormont's speech in House of Lords. Read the Adelphi of Terence. Attended the Westminster play, well acted etc... Saw Duke of Bedford, who has the features of Lord Gower etc. Supped at Dr Smith's with Archbishop of York, Bishop of Peterborough, Chief Baron, Batt, Burton, Mackdonald & others. Dined with Aislabies. Decided to spend Christmas at Stanmer. Nearer to London and avoids long solitary journey. Still unused to making decisions without consulting Grantham. Quotes from Micco.
