Anxious due to lack of letters. Had hoped that move from St. Ildephonso to Madrid would cheer Grantham, large empty house had contrary effect. Sobral's opinion of health and treatment gave great comfort. Fritz becoming indifferent as to means by which their separation is ended. Dining without company generally. Dinner served around 4.30 pm, therefore candles before it is over. Coffee & Picquet take up evening. Camp broke up Thursday. Sir Robert Harland's division came into Sound yesterday. Rest of Fleet at Portsmouth. Lord Stormont succeeded the Duke of Queensbury in his Scotch employment according to newspaper. Event would have been more material to Fritz & Grantham some time ago etc... Weather very variable. Pruning of shrubbery goes on.
