Went to Plymouth with Mr. Parker, left name with the General. Met Duke of Portland, Duchess bathing at Tynmouth [Teignmouth]. Duke enquired after Grantham. He has grown thin, eating no meat. Doing an 84 mile round trip to Plymouth from Tynmouth. Duchess & Lord Tickfield to stay in Plymouth two or three days. Brought home ensign Dalrymple from Camp, a boy recommended to Parker. Parker lay at Camp in order to take command of a sham fight in his woods; exercising about 500 men. Followed the Army to the end of the Marshes that evening with Nanny and little boy in the Whisky. Great number of people also there. Dinner at Mr. Heywood's; a charming place. General details about evening routine, supper of milk at 9.30 p.m. alone. Mr. Parker to bed early when at Camp etc.. Missing Grantham greatly.
