Setting out to Saltram tomorrow via Salisbury, Blandford & Exeter. At the play on Friday night. Dined at Sneyd's with Sir Stanier and Lady Porten, Mr. Fraser & Morton Eden. Lady Porten "seems as if she could manage a younger man than her Knight...". Received news, during dinner, of today's Gazette [not specified]. John Bull wishes "drubbing...more compleat". Sir George Rodney and Mr. Leveson in after dinner. Latter broke. Dined at home, visited Aunt Stainforth. Walked into City to change a bank note, reminded him of his & Grantham's summer ramble into Temple. Would bathe in Thames if longer in town. Reminded Mr. Chamier of Shadwell's business at Secretary of State's office. Draper has paid him for Rodrigo's books. Mr. Brand married Miss Roper, she stays in England. Refers to letter by Spanish Messenger, he did set off before Keppel's news. Does not approve of Grantham bathing in Tagus, fear of tree branches and trunks, hopes his wish of never revisiting these banks will be gratified. Will send clear account of finances as soon as possible. Did not understand that almost all steel ware was for Camerara Mors. Glad Grantham escaped headache on Review Day. Paying bills again doesn't want to leave debts behind. Doesn't want to diminish his Capital etc.. The Swiss will be staying in London in case Nanny wishes to go into the country. She is better but a cure may take some time. Grantham lost all his winnings from the Sitio during first day he played in town. Will write to Harris. Jeffery's bill enclosed.
