  • Scope and Content
Update on the post. [Grantham apparently hasn't heard from him for some time]. Thanks for view of Torre de Colmeran, please send card of all drawings made. Doesn't like Grantham staying at Aranjuez so long, unwholesome air etc... Fancies the poor Queen will be happy to return to Portugal. Writing to Masin when at Turin, to find out size of his pannels, none ready made at manufactory, also to tell him price of coach and chariot very different. Get Villa hermosa to purchase Grantham's, won't sell in England, might at Paris. Thinks there is reason to be angry about Sir Jago's snuff, Grantham could never have promised to procure it for him. Hopes he will succeed with Caravajal’s horses. M. Almodobar has arrived, learnt this from papers. Fritz will visit when back in London. May not open their house until next winter, much work needed. Dined at Muntham, journey bearable due to cooler weather. Describes alterations to house; not all improved etc... Apartments over some rooms "fill'd with turning wheels, electrical machines, instruments out of tune etc..." The cook still in favor, the Master of the house "has still a finger in the pye...contrary to the Gentoo Laws...suppose Nabobs have a dispensing power". Mr. Metcalfe off to relations in Yorkshire. Hoping to see Grantham at Newby at Christmas, talking of alterations to make there; passage of communication between wings, creating a patio. Alterations to Stanmer, Lord Pelham glad of advice from Grantham for design of portico's or corridors etc. Emily Pelham's birthday today. Thinks Lucy is the favourite daughter. George is at Hackney, he is to be a Bishop. Harry pleased with his profession now although once thought of orders. P.S. Received Waddilove's letter, will answer when in town.
