  • Scope and Content
Summary of letters sent. Confirming sending snuff box for Grantham's Titian etc... Dined at home on meat, greens and pudding, porter and Claret since Thursday. Latter from de la Pierres. Went to Ranelagh. Supped at Adelphi, Lady Louisa Macdonald's house, with some Law friends. Went to Kensington Gardens alone, describes them. Took leave of Aunt Stainforth who always turns him away at 10 pm. If longer in town might revisit old haunts; Bagnigge Wells, white conduit house etc. Dining at Stanmer tomorrow. Sending bill of lading for box on Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion, Raman de Villar Master. Mistakenly consigned to Widow Brodeirs [see 333/105]. Further instructions as to how to deal. Has received £100 from Draper on account of Grantham. Details in another post. Count Prasca in London. Unable to meet him. Countess Schulenberg, sister to Lady Chesterfield also in London. The Cordons have taken Lady Bateman's house in Green Park for summer. Pelhams acquainted with her etc... Lord Pelham has failed in his cause [see L30/14/333/101]. Case involving the sanity of Mr. Lisle examined by Lord Chancellor, details given, estate in Hampshire worth about £1000. Uncle Worsley pretending to be angry about T. Weddell’s match "the Lady is but a coarse piece...". Has received instruction on `polite accomplishments' etc... The family at Newby finally allowed a visit, circumstances described. "Mrs. W. Weddell should I think have wrote at the bottom of her ticket - according to Act of Parliament". Left recado with Escarano for the Embassador M. Almodobar, who is arriving whilst Fritz is out of town. Almodobar is a distant relation of M. Pignatelle the Neopolitan Minister in London. Hair cropped for country, queue [pig tail] like a painter's brush, makes for a better winter coiffure. Has also had teeth cleaned and one stopped by M. Landumiey, pain all gone. Hasn't yet bathed. Probably will whilst at Stanmer, at Brighthelmstone and later in year at Devon. Draper will pay Negretti's bill at Whites. Will put off Jeffery's for the Camerara Mors’ steel wires. Paying bills all day. Cheaper to live in Spain. Intending to stay at Stanmer three to four weeks. Called on friend Fanshawe, married with three children, living in Bedford Rowe. Irish Lord Fitzwilliam going abroad again but not to Spain. Has not heard from Nanny during her journey to Saltram. Taking Siere to Stanmer not George the Swiss. Latter rather stupid in making visits. Marybone Gardens are no more; entirely covered with buildings. Perhaps Master Browne's occupation is gone. [Ends with series of questions about people in Spain]. P.S. Confirming the same person carries the King's presents to Massarano.
