    Grantham left behind `false book' containing all unanswered and unanswerable letters. Arrangements to get it to him discussed. Encloses letters from Mr. Hardy and Tom. Violent and constant rain prevents everyone except Fritz & Mr. Munro going to Fair. Drove to Prao, from thence to Munro's to drink tea (serves for Gout) with Shadwell & Mackintosh. Finally home to read Torey. News from Madrid, Campo declined Gogeneche's place, and is to have honors of Counsellor of State, continues at office with an addition of 70 m Reals a year to his salary. Bero. Guaste to be first Commis & Las Lasas second. Expedition ordered not to be ready until end of month.
