    John Johnson’s long and detailed account of his background and character. Johnson's "Religious Principles were shaken to the greater Degree" and was just about to be admitted to a "Romish Persuasion" when Grantham discovered situation. Advised him to return to England referring him to Porteus for spiritual assistance and support in finding a new place. Also sending Johnson to Mr. Draper with copy of this letter. [See also L30/14/109/44] 6 August 1774 Anonymous note with above draft: "Dr. Friend take care of the infernal smear that they are laying out for you, they are pouring down your throat all the best liquour they can on purpose call to Jesus Christ and his holy Mother to protect and do not be afred". "Mr. Hayes Surgeon in Soho Square" written on back of original letter. Not dated [c1780] [Sic].
