    Settlement Parties: (i) Francis Canfeild, citizen and grocer of London and Elizabeth, his wife; (ii) George Watt of Aldersgate Street, London , merchant; John Osgood of London, linen draper; William Parker of London, bricklayer; John Staploe of London, grocer; (iii) Gawen Lawrey of London, merchant; John Jones of Saint Andrew, Holborn, glover Reciting: - marriage settlement of 28 April 1677 between (1) Francis Canfeild and Jacob, his son and (2) Elizabeth Watt of London, spinster, George Watt, John Osgood, William Parker and John Staploe in which Francis Canfeild was to marry Elizabeth Watt and granted (a)-(j) to George Watt, William Parker, John Osgood and John Staploe to the use of Francis Canfeild for his life, to the use of Elizabeth Watt for her life in lieu of dower, remainder to George Watt, William Parker, John Osgood and John Staploe during the joint lives of Francis Canfeild and Elizabeth Watt to preserve contingent remainders, remainder to George Watt, William Parker, John Osgood and John Staploe for 99 years from the death of survivor of Francis and Elizabeth to the use of their eldest son etc.; - agreement of 1st May 1678 between (1) Thomas Canfeild and (2) Gawen Lawrie and John Osgood on the marriage of (1) and Elizabeth Watt in which (1) covenanted that £1,500 should be invested in purchasing land and held by (2) to the use of (1) for his life remainder to Elizabeth for her life as her jointure, remainder to their heirs for ever; - Francis Canfeild laid out £1,000 purchasing (k)-(l) - indenture of 20th April 1678 between (1) John Edge; (2) Francis Canfeild and Elizabeth, his wife; (3) George Watt and Samuel Tomlins in which (k)-(l) were conveyed to (3) to the use of Francis Canfeild for his life, remainder to Elizabeth for her life for her jointure, remainder to their heirs, remainder to Francis Canfeild for ever; - Francis Canfeild purchased (m)-(n) from Nicholas Barbon and Thomas Fountaine of Lincolns Inn [Middlesex], esquire; - lease and release of 15th-16th August 1681 conveying (m)-(n) to George Watt and John Osgood to the use of Francis Canfeild for his life, remainder to Elizabeth for her life for her jointure, remainder to their heirs, remainder to Francis Canfeild for ever Operative Part: - to dock and bar all remainders and estates and as a jointure for Elizabeth Canfeild in lieu of her dower (i) and (ii) conevanted with (iii) to levy a fine sur conizance de droit come ceo etc for (a)-(n) Property: (a) mansion in Green End, Stotfold [Stratfould]; (b) croft of one acre adjoining (a); (c) two acres of pasture called Vaynes Close on the N of (a); (d) nine acres of arable in Stotfold; (e) pightle of pasture of three roods in Green End, Stotfold, abutting W on the Green, close of Edward Crouch N; land of Joseph King E and cottage and land of Thomas Awborne S (a) to (e) recently bought by Thomas Canfeild from Nicholas Beard of Stotfold, yeoman; Thomas Awborne of Stotfold, weaver and Anne, his wife, Richard Retchford of Stotfold, weaver and Susanna, his wife and were in occupation of Francis Canfeild (f) capital messuage in Ashwell [Hertfordshire] called The Bull formerly in occupation of William Hurst, then John Clarke; (g) cottage in Ashwell formerly in occupation of George Arnold, then Elizabeth Plummer, widow and adjoining (f); (h) arable land of 75 acres in Redland Field, Middle Field, Quarry Field and North Field in Ashwell (f)-(h) had been bought by Francis Canfeild from John Clarke the younger of Ashwell, yeoman and were in occupation of James Everett and John Sell (i) tenement in Chipping Barnet [Hertfordshire]; (j) two crofts of land on the backside of (i) (i)-(j) formerly in occupation of Margaret Rolfe, than Joane Bull, widow and were bought by Francis Canfeild from Thomas Vesey of Middle Temple, London, gentleman and Alice, his wife, daughter and heir of Thomas Gibbons late of Saint Martin's-in-the-Fields [Middlesex], white baker (k) two tofts in Seacoale Lane and Beare Alley in Saint Sepulchre's Without Newgate [London] one abutting on Fleet Ditch W, Beare Lane S, land of Saint Sepulchre's E and land of Company of Armourers N measuring N-S at W end 39 feet fronting Fleet Ditch, and E-W at S fronting Beare Lane 87 feet; the other abutting Seacoale Lane E, Bear Lane S, ground of Saint Sepulchre's W, land of the Company of Armourers N and containing N-S on E side fronting Seacoale Lane 38 feet and E-W on S side fronting Beare Lane 79 feet; (l) 13 messuages built on (k) in occupation of Thomas Matthews, Andrew Hatt, Allen Weaver, John Rowlett, Matthew Ingram, Henry Elsey, James Petiver and John Rowley (k)-(l) purchased from John Edge of Saint Andrew, Holborn, bricklayer who had them from Nicholas Barbon, doctor in physick who "amongst others" purchased them from Thomas Shewell of Bernards Inn, London, gentleman and Mary, his wife and Mary, relict of Abraham Shewell (m) tofts of land near Queen Anne's Alley and George Alley in Saint Bride's alias Saint Bridget's [London] abutting on Fleet Ditch E, George Alley S, a new passage leading between George Alley and Queen Anne's Alley W and two tenements N, one a brewhouse in occupation of Jefferyes the other in occupation of Widow Collier containing N-S at E end fronting Fleet Ditch 42 feet and E-W on S side fronting George Alley 122 feet 6 inches and N-S at W end fronting the new passage 52 feet 6 inches; (n) Nine messuages on (m) in occuption of John Mallard, George Cooke, Thomas Bate, Ralph Newman, Edward Sawyer and Allen Weaver Witnesses: - John Downes; - George Dewy senior; - George Dewy junior
