- Date free text22 Nov 1782
- Production dateFrom: 1782 To: 1782
- Scope and ContentLady Shelburne and himself have been very concerned about Grantham since learning of his fall. Does not know when he may wait on Grantham, but will send Rayneval, which will be the same thing. Rayneval has offered to show his whole dispatch. Captain Loyd, a friend of Shelburne's has got much acquainted with him, and Shelburne intends to use Loyd to "reason amicably" with Rayneval over Newfoundland. Wishes Grantham could find some substitute for Pierre and Miquelon, "that they could be brought to take them without the right of Fortyfying, worded as they please." If Grantham wishes, Shelburne will wait on him - otherwise he is obliged to stay for the Lord Chancellor and Lord Ashburton, whom he had appointed.
