Mr Grenville has come back. The French are very impatient for an answer, and he once thought that they were on the point of breaking off, for want of it. They understand that his coming away does not put an end to the negotiation, and may it not be necessary to communicate to M. de Vergennes, through someone such as Simlin or Oswald, that a person will shortly be appointed. When Grenville last saw M. de Vergennes, he said repeatedly that the French were ready for mediation.
