  • Scope and Content
Received Grantham's letters of the 1st and 8th. Hopes he may soon be able to inform Grantham on the safe arrival of the most important part of his baggage. The sooner Waddilove's own baggage is out of the way the better, in view of the quantity that will be in Grantham's house. Waddilove has "no determinations" about a journey to London, whether before or after Christmas, or whether for a few days or a few weeks. The Archbishop and family set out for London tomorrow, and Waddilove returns to Topcliffe. Asks Grantham to thank his Grace when he sees him, for his kindness to Waddilove. Believes Mr Robinson and Grantham to be well, although has heard report that Mr Robinson is recommended to Bath, he hopes only to vary the journey from Devon to London. Mr Ellis wished Waddilove to dine at the Court Dinner at Rockcliffe last week, which he could not, although Ellis was sure Grantham would have done so if he had been in Yorkshire. Mr Morritt and Mr Mason send their compliments. John Johnson will be fortunate if he succeeds with Mr Pelham. Waddilove's Spaniard behaves well: he may find Newby lonesome, but prefers it to his own country. Waddilove does not know how far he is "reconciled to our Church, but has made so much Progress as to be able to find the Psalms I imagine".
