  • Scope and Content
Translation: Milord, It was only yesterday that I received the letter of 12th of this month with which Your Excellency honoured me, which is why I have only now, the honour of replying and of assuring you that I will be delighted to carry Your Excellency's packages in one of the many bales that I send from here, as long as no items of contraband are included because I have a policy of not carrying any such for anyone and even of declaring everything that I carry to the Customs in London, in order to comply with the law, and I always abide by it. Thus under these conditions Your Excellency may send anything whatever, and I will deliver it wherever you ask, it being understood that it is only for you that I undertake this commission, not wishing to abuse the kindness they have for me at the London Customs and which I wish to keep. I am very busy trying to console poor Fuentes who lost his wife two days ago, it is one of the happenings which detracts from my pleasure in life, and I blame myself for having wished for it. In the hope of renewing in person Milord, the respectful attachment I have for you, I am, Your Excellency, Your very humble and obedient servant, The Prince of Masserano.
