  • Scope and Content
Lockhart is presently at Scott's House in Fife. Lady Mary had about three weeks ago a dangerous delivery which ended in the death of the child, so Lockhart came directly to Edinburgh from his tour in the west of Scotland when he heard. She has now recovered. Lockhart will stay in Scotland until the end of October. On 20th, he proposes to be at the Duke of Roxburghe's at Fleurs for a few days on his way south. Surprised to see Lord Robert at Hamilton laid up with illness, although he is now doing very well. Surprised to hear from Scott that he has had a letter from Almack to inform him of his having, on account of his health, given up his house to his nephew and Brookes. Understands that the French Ambassador's very abrupt departure occasions much speculation in London, the true cause of which has not yet been discovered in Scotland. The papers mention Masseran's recall to be employed in a military department at home. Does not think the Princess will find much satisfaction in returning in Spain.
