- Admin/biog historyThe Woburn Sands and District Preservation and Protection Society was founded in August 1965 as 'an act of spontaneous protest at the state of affairs revealed by a public inquiry at Woburn Sands' into the proposal to build a large brickworks. The aims of the society were 1. To assess the extent of spoliation of the countryside in the brickworks valley...2 To carry out a survey of trees and other vegetation...3. To examine the feasibility of sampling the emissions from existing brickworks... 4 To establish a good relationship with local and county authorities. A draft constitution was drawn up. This was amended and adopted later in the year. The constitution was amended to extend membership and, in 1968, change the name of the Society to the Woburn Sands and District Society. The Woburn Sands and District Society was wound up in the summer of 2018.
