  • Scope and Content
"Now are you so occupied with visits, plays, operas, mantua-stay-shoe- and God-knows-what makers, hairdressers etc". We had very good sport on Monday. I have fished a Mr Crawfurd of the Royals, quartered single at Shefford, who hunted with me today. The Duke of Grafton's militia will be at Hitchin and Stevenage etc.; an acquaintance with Lord Euston may be of real use in more important objects than hounds. The Royal Irish winter at Woburn, Sir Alexander Purves included. I learn that the Bedfordshire heroes are accounted the second, if not finest body of militia extant, and winter at Exeter; The Cambridgeshires were fit for nothing when they came to camp, and now are about able to scramble through the manual exercise. Letter from Mr Yorke, cannot go to Hamels, at least not till after Monday, being particularly engaged to meet Mr Pym etc. that morning on business at Sheerhatch.
