A Labour Certificate No 1A for Percy William Rutland of Highlands Lodge, Campton (d.o.b. 2nd November 1905), exempting him from school after 13 years of age on condition of employment by G W Cook in agricultural work, issued on 6th December 1918. The certificate confirms that Mr Rutland made 350 attendances in not more than 2 schools during each year for five preceding years, those being Campton and Gravenhurst Schools. It also states that "should the child cease to be so employed before reaching the age of fourteen he or she must at once return to school". The certificate is signed by William W Mark, Clerk to the Local Education Authority for Bedfordshire and H E Baines, Director of Education. The item is accompanied by a black and white photograph of the certificate.
