Earl de Grey sold it in 1845 to George Hudson, railway king, who sold it in the 1850s to Lord Downe. Deeds in large Downe collection in North Riding County Record Office, uncatalogued. Now Skellfield School. (There is another Newby Hall nearby, on the Ure, and in the parish of Ripon , West Riding, deeds in Leeds Central Library. see illustrated booklet).
