The Society was formed in about 1993, with the first newsletter being produced in January 1994. The society 'was established to interest and inform all those who seek to learn more about the history of the area in which we live.'

The papers so far received were sent to Bedfordshire Record Office by the society for information rather than as a formal record of the socierty and were therefore treated as a gift.
