Grosvenor Place - Sloan 7552 In 1903(?) the first long distance line was by special Act of Parliament opened between the London Office and Luton Works and cost £330 per year. Later this line was given up and by agreement with the Post Office to 2 x 20 minute periods per day were agreed by Post Office, using public lines. Two letters each day passed between London and Luton, one at midday by passenger train and one evening letter by post. These contained letters received during the day which required attention by Luton. The London Bankers were Prescotts Dimsdale Tugwell & Co The Luton Bankers were Sharples & Co. Mr R L Howard seldom in London but generally on a Friday. Mr Eliot Howard, JP,DL, mostly in London, Chairman of the Bench of magistrates at Stratford, dealt with finance matters connected to Inland Revenue. With the exception of catalogues “E” and “K”, catalogues were prepared by Mr Eliot and printed mainly by John Bellows & Co of Gloucester. Half Tone printing by Bemrose & Son. Half tone blocks were prepared by Vaus and Crampton and the Halk Tone Engraving Co. Wood block engraving by W Casson and electro type by Deleganno Co. Mr R. S.
