The Board of Education allowance for 100 boys is 4 acres; Bedford Modern should therefore have 24 acres; it has 10. The river may be counted as 4 acres. The Clapham Road property of the Thomas Christie Charity is the only suitable land available for the extension of the playing field. There are 12 acres of flat and 3 of rising ground. To it, however, is attached the hill side and flat top making altogether 54 acres. The whole site, less the Clapham Road frontage has been offered to the Harpur Trust for £12,000
