- Scope and ContentThanks parents for letter and parcels. Would rather parents did not send butter of they are short; it is not essential, as writer can use marmalade instead. Went to a debate about abolishing the English monarchy after the war; roused a good deal of feeling. Last night a debate on the usefulness of missions, which was rather boring. 'No one thinks of going to bed nowadays without a cocoa.' Going to rowing coaching tomorrow. Tennis prectice cancelled due to rain. This afternoon is 'common tea', which happens every fortnight. Keeps people friendly together and breaks up cliques. Went to a concert of the Cambridge Musical Society at the Guildhall. It gave an example of the foolishness of the College chaperone rules; were allowed to go because they were told there would be an official chaperone in the room, but they never saw her and did not know who she was - could have done anything!
