Letter and envelope: “I received Your letter from January. 7th on 20th January. Very many thanks for it, I also received Your Xmas wishes befor some days, I am very pleased to hear that You are all well”. “Yes Mrs Rowe it was good to be at home in Germany to Silvern Wedding and Xmas, but it is a very hard life, I think You have read in the paper from the crisis of food in the British Zone in Germany, the rations are very short, I will give You some figures of our rations: bread is enough, but margarine 3 ounce for 4 weeks, meat 1 lbs for 4 Weeks, butter 4 ounce for 4 weeks and so on it is too less for life and work” “For 4 weeks we get only 40 cigarettes is not too much. When the war was finished my wife’s weight was 12 stone and now 9 stones, yes it is terrible, but we are glad because my home is quite well and not destroyed”. “Dear Mrs. Rowe we will hope that the Year 1947 will bring goods for all in the world”. “In this letter I send some stamps and two pictures from Hamburg, I will send more in the following letters”. “Please give my kind regards to Mrs. Lambert and David”.
