    Thanks for letter and cheque. Refers to schoolmasters being called up; wonders who will do the teaching. 'You will have to get ladies, I expect, unless the tribe of maids who are leaving will take on the job.' Regrets that the cook was a failure. Has been to Blackheath. Cousin Flossie was there. Grandmama seems well again. Has passed all the examinations; got 196 out of 200 for gunnery maths. Has been promoted to corporal.
