    Recites: RO15/1 Recites: Post Nuptial Settlement 6 June 1677 i) George Bird of Houghton Conquest, blacksmith and wife Elizabeth, daughter of Henry Hopkins of Soulbury, Buckinghamshire, yeoman ii) Henry Hopkins of Soulbury aforesaid, yeoman, John Hopkins of the same, yeoman -close called Northern Piece in Wilshamstead -cottage in Howend in Houghton Conquest in occupation of John Brown -pightle adjoining called Carters, 2 acres -4 acres arable and meadow in Howend which premises were particularly described in Mortgage by Demise 25 April 1670 by which John Rivers of Sharpenhoe in Streatley, husbandman since deceased conveyed to James Hanscombe of Shillington, husbandman, the cottage, pightle and 4 acres aforesaid for 999 years at peppercorn rent; repayment 26 April 1671 at house of William Fuller in Barton Repayment not made Indenture of Assignment 18 March 28 Charles II [1676] (i) James Hanscomb (ii) George Bird -said premises for residue of term of 999 years Now: (6 June 1677) said premises conveyed to Henry and John Hopkins for residue of term of 999 years on trusts: to use of George Bird for life and then to Elizabeth as jointure then to their issue there are 2 parts of this settlement, both with Livery of Seisin endorsed Recites: RO15/2 Legal Opinion marginal note beside recital of the settlement: I know Abel Toppins one of the Witnesses, a receiver for the Lovet family of their estate at Soulbury, Buckinghamshire and who usually employed the schoolmaster at this country village to write for him and I presume he prepared this settlement... at end: opinion that Mr Robinson can make a title to Mr Baker if he, with his trustee Mr Bird, enfeoff Mr Baker Richard Ward
