Henry Sewell was a solicitor, who eventually settled in Chigwell, Essex. He seems to have been a close personal friend of Thomas James Hooper. Perhaps they qualified together. As early as 1866 some partnership had been arranged between the two, probably dealing with a speculation at Maswell Park, Hounslow, called the Warren Estate. By the end of the 1870s considerable sums had been invested on mortgage secured by Sewell's Essex property including £2,041 invested by Hooper himself. In 1882 Sewell's liabilities grew too great and Hooper brought a case successfully to gain the equity of redemption of the properties both in Essex and Middlesex. The contents of Hall Farm, Stow Maries, raised £629.15s.8d. The farm was directly run by a bailiff of Thomas James Hooper till 1891 when the stock was sold. The labour books would indicate that the farm was still run directly despite the sale, which may very well have been of surplus stock. The Maswell Park property was disposed of in 1905, following Hooper's death.
