Jeremiah Row: he was a bargeman employed by Jeremiah Glover to navigate his barges. Glover was employed by Mr Pope, the coal merchant, to carry coals for him. On Monday one of the barges in his barge lay in Mr Pop’s yard at Biggleswade and there was about a 100 weight of coals upon the deck for his use. Soon after 6pm he missed those coals. The prisoner was about a good deal that afternoon. William Robin: he was employed on board of Row’s barge. On Monday evening the prisoner Whittamore came on board and he saw him put the 100 weight of coals into a bag and carry them away. He told him not to do it but Whittamore told him to go to hell. James Whittamore: William Robin gave him leave to take the coals. He asked him if he had a coal or two to give him. Robin told him he had none but what lay on the barge and may let him have one or two of them.
