  • Scope and Content
ii)'s letter of 29 January found i) very ill the 31st of the collick, hence delay in answering cousin Robert Downes mentioned in our uncle Thomas Jones's will was father of i) and undoubtedly received legacy therein mentioned; only i) could claim under him and now acknowledges receipt thereof, also receipt of £300 bequeathed to himself by same will under obligation of paying mother annuity - nothing due to her or me on these accounts i) is sure he may depend on ii) for delivering note for £30 to brother of i), Dr Trimnell , now Bishop of Norwich [Charles Trimnell Bishop of Norwich 1708-1721] he lives still at same house by St James's Church. Hopes ii) will not take advantage of confidence which i) and his mother had in father of ii). "for we trusted so much to him who was indeed our best Friend, that we took no receipt of him almost for any thing" and will not take unjust advantage against ii) "who have been so kind to me". Wishes "there was as good a disposition to clear the bond your Father gave my Dear Mother and me" cannot hear from mother of i) what she intends and is uneasy about it. ii) mentions that he is going out of England but does not say "on what occasion or in what Quality ... may this Voyage be for your advantage and Honour". Sorry to hear of death of ii)'s sister Ethersey and hopes "the long expectation thereof prepared her and others the better for it" Brington, Northamptonshire
