- Scope and Content1) Isaac Emery, late of Town of Bedford, hempdresser but now of New Brentford, Middlesex (only son and heir of Joseph Emery of Goldington, labourer and Sarah his wife, both deceased) 2) Samuel Perrin of Town of Bedford, labourer recites deed of 5 November 1709: messuage, cottage or tenement in St Cuthbert, Bedford, with orchard adjoining, commonly called the Lower Orchard with free passage to and from the well for the use of the said messuage to fetch, take and draw water (then in 1709 occupied by Isaac Emery but now by Perrin) abutting E. messuage heretofore of Thomas Witt, since of Benjamin Rodgers, And a messuage formerly of Edward Munke and since of Benjamin Rodgers, And an orchard or piece of ground called the Over Orchard lying between the said messuages and a piece of sweard land called the Clay Pitts, belonging to St John’s Hospital in Bedford, And the messuage late in the tenure of Robert Tilly and now of Solomon Penneyfather W. messuage heretofore of Humphrey Merrill and then or late of Joseph Reeve or his widow and now of John Radwell and his wife. ground formerly called and is part of Pecks Close then and now used as a garden then in occupation of John Ireland and now of Robert Upton Consideration £35 paid by 2) to 1) witnesses: Elizabeth Beechton, William Gadd, Thomas Theed 14 and 15 Sep 1730 NB These deeds are curious as they seem to duplicate HF40/5/5/10a & b dated 27 and 28 December 1717. Perhaps these should be seen as a Quitclaim because some irregularity in the previous deed had been discovered
