    1) Cornelius Pateman Herbert of Setch, Norfolk, brewer Nathaniel Vincent Herbert late of Biggleswade now of Girtford, merchant (devisees of Will of George Herbert of Biggleswade, merchant, their late brother, eldest son and heir by Will of Dennis Herbert late of Biggleswade deceased) 2) Samuel Wells of Biggleswade, brewer (purchaser) recites agreement to purchase copyhold premises below for £2000 On same date as this, document surrendered at Manor Court of Biggleswade “Crown Inn” abutting W. or SW. messuage in occupation of John Brunt E. or NE. messuage and buildings owned by William Brunt (part of which messuage namely W. or SW. end, formerly John Hide, several rooms and buildings burnt down in Great Fire of Biggleswade 1785) And piece of ground (1 rood) N. or NW. side of Back Street part garden, part hogsty and yard and together with as much ground as was not purchased from Elizabeth Bowker, was purchased by Dennis Herbert from Ed. Stadderd And slip of piece of land upon part of which are stables used with the “Crown Inn”, remainder used as yard and garden. fronts Back Street S. or SE. and extending backwards to property of Samuel Wells garden of Crown Inn W. or SW. (part of purchase by Dennis Herbert from Joseph Weston) And toft whereon a Malthouse formerly stood now part garden of “Crown Inn” (purchased by Dennis Herbert form William Nightingale) (all above late in occupation of William Grigg, now Thomas Perkins situated in Biggleswade) And “Black Swan”, Shortmead Street, Biggleswade in occupation of Richard Richardson and cottage sometime in occupation of Thomas Dalton, late Thomas Langford, now George Walker on S. of above (part of estate purchased by Dennis Herbert of Austin Drage)
