    Examination and character reference – George Day of Barton-le-Clay, labourer, voluntarily confesses that on the previous Friday he was in the Crown public house at Barton, kept by Mr Hughes at Barton, with his father. He saw in the passage a little basket and a box. He took the basket and hid it in Mr Brown’s field. He opened it and found in it the cap now produced, which he sold on Friday evening to William Hill for 6d.
