- Scope and ContentPC Henry Samuel Fisher: on 6 June from information received he watched the prisoner in Bute Street, Luton. He saw her go into Mr Haley’s shop and when she came out he went in. From what the lad told him he followed her and caught her on the way to High Town. He told her he had come to take her into custody on a charge of passing bad money and he believed her to have some bad money about her. She said she had not know her money to be bad but she had a bout a sovereigns work. She said she had about 12 or 13 shillings and that it was all bad. He took from her 10 shillings pieces and 3 two shilling pieces. One of the florins and 3 of the shillings were marked. She had 2 sixpences and 2 pence halfpenny in good money. She said she had been chasing about the ‘Welcome Stranger’ (a beer and lodging house) and had found it under the copper hole. He then took her into custody. William Robinson Raban: he was a silversmith and jeweller in Luton. The florin and 3 shilling pieces, which were all marked, were counterfeit. The other 2 florins both 1865 and the 7 shilling pieces dated 1865 and 4 others dated 1866 were also counterfeit. Statement of the accused: she knew she had it but did not know it to be bad.
