    “I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God”. To son Humphrey (executor jointly with Robert Gibbs) the King’s Head, Ampthill, with maltings and gardens in Bedford Street, subject to annuity to son William; reversion to daughter Mary, wife of Robert Gibbs, to whom house adjoining, late in occupation of William Fox. To daughter Elizabeth, wife of John Travell, house in Absell Street, Shillington, in occupation of John Gudgeon; and £150 on death of son William. To son John 4 acres wood and meadow at Maulden in own occupation; 5 acres in the common fields of Flitwick in occupation of Richard Goodman, miller; also annuity. To Robert Gibbs £200 on death of John, for upbringing of his children; to daughter Mary, wife of Richard Gibbs, £200. To granddaughter Elizabeth Carte £50. To maidservant Elizabeth Boston £5..5s for mourning. Witnesses: John Brown, Thomas Patch, Robert Mansfield Codicil: George Eaton of Ampthill, grocer, to be executor in place of Humphrey Carte. William Carte’s annuity to be 10s per annum. Witnesses: John Perrin, Edward White, Samuel Davis junior.
