  • Admin/biog history
Formed in 1765 and originally included parts of Bucks, Cambs, Herts, Hunts, and Northants; separate circuits at Higham Ferrers and St.Ives (later re-named St.Neots, see MB1/SNW) formed in 1793 taking parts of Bedfordshire. Bedford circuit again split in 1808 when Luton (MB1/LW) became a separate circuit. Further reduced by creation of new circuits at Leighton Buzzard (MB1/LB) in 1812 and Newport Pagnell (MB1/NP) in 1814. The circuits at Biggleswade (MB1/BG, from St.Neots in 1812), Hitchin (from Biggleswade in 1842 but amalgamated with Luton 1854-1863 before becoming a separate circuit again), and Dunstable (MB1/DU, from Luton in 1843) were formed from within circuits taken from the original Bedford circuit. By 1829 established as the Bedford and Ampthill Wesleyan Circuit (see MB1/BA).
