    Eliza Parkins: on 15 August about 11.30am she was standing against the White Hart public house in Luton. She saw the prisoner standing in the doorway of the White Hart. She next saw him close behind her, on her right hand side. Tehre was nobody else nearby at the time. He knew the prisoner by the mark on his cheek. The prisoner was only near her a short time and went away before she did. She went down Market Hill and on feeling in her pocket, she missed her purse. There had been a sovereign, a sixpence and 9 pence in copper in the purse. PC Richard Lambert: on 15 August the prisoner was in custody on another charge. On conveying the prisoner to the station and searching him, he found the money on him. It consisted of 2 half sovereigns, 4 half crowns, 2 shillings, 10 sixpences, 2 fourpenny pieces, a threepenny piece, a penny and 4 half pennies amounting to £1 15s 8d. Statement of the accused: nothing to say.
