    Apprenticeship Indenture: Walter Cooke son of Arthur Cooke of Wavendon, labourer, to William Thomas Hulatt of Woburn, tailor. Indenture: Walter Cooke son of Arthur Cooke of Wavendon, labourer, of his own free will and by and with the consent of his said father (testified by his being made a party to and executing these presents) doth put himself apprentice to the said William Thomas Hulatt of Woburn, tailor to learn his art or trade in the manner of an apprentice from 1 January 1886 for the term of four years next ensuing (Sundays excepted). During which term the said apprentice shall faithfully serve his said Master in all lawful businesses according to his power skill and ability and behave himself towards his said Master honestly orderly and obediently in all things. William Thomas Hulatt in consideration of such faithful service and of the sum of twenty pounds to be paid to him by Arthur Cooke in manner following ten pounds on the execution of these presents and the further sum of ten pounds on 1st January 1888 if the said apprentice shall be living and in the service of the said William Thomas Hulatt (the receipt of which first mentioned sum of ten pounds is hereby acknowledged) William Thomas Hulatt doth hereby accept and take the said Walter Cooke as his apprentice and him the said Walter Cooke in the said art or trade of a tailor which he useth by the best means that he can shall teach and instruct or cause to be taught or instructed finding for his said apprentice the necessary tools and utensils used in the said art or trade. William Thomas Hulatt doth hereby agree during the continuance of the said term to find and provide for his said apprentice good and sufficient food drink and lodging from Monday morning until Saturday Night in each week and also once in every year one suit of clothes. Arthur Cooke agrees to find and provide for his said son good and sufficient board and lodging from Saturday night until Monday morning in each week and also clothes washing and all other necessaries and medicine surgery and nursing in case of sickness. Provided always that if the said apprentice shall be absent from the service of his said Master during any part of the said term on account of illness or from any other cause without the consent of the said master for that purpose first obtained in writing it is hereby agreed between all the parties hereto that in the case of his absence the said apprentice shall continue to serve the said William Thomas Hulatt as such apprentice for such further time beyond the four years as shall make up the full period of the said apprenticeship. For the true performance and several agreements hereinbefore contained either of the parties bindeth themselves to the other by these presents. On dorse: I have paid the within mentioned sum of ten pounds half premium on behalf of the said Arthur Cooke in pursuance of an agreement between us an din further pursuance of such arrangement I undertake to pay the within mentioned William Thomas Hulatt the remaining sum of ten pounds when the same shall become due and I acknowledge that my assuring the payment by one of these premium was a condition precedent to the execution of the within written Indenture.
