    Apprenticeship Indenture: Thomas Sear of his own free will and with the consent of his father George Lane Sear of Fenny Stratford, blacksmith, testified by his execution of these presents doth put himself apprentice to Thomas Shepherd of Fenny Stratford, pastry cook and confectioner. From the 23rd July now last past for the term of seven years. Thomas Shepherd in consideration of such faithful service and of the sum of twenty pounds paid to him by the said George Lane Sear as follows ten pounds on the execution hereof presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the sum of five pounds on the 24th December1864and the sum of five pounds on the 24th December 1865 if the said apprentice shall be alive and in his said masters service when the said two last payments shall fall due but not otherwise. His said apprentice in the art or trade of a pastry cook and confectioner which he useth by the best means that he can shall teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed finding unto the said apprentice sufficient meat and drink at the table of Thomas Shepherd and lodging in the house of his Master Thomas Shepherd and also shall the said apprentice be living and in his service during the sixth year of the said term pay to his said apprentice the sum of five shillings weekly and during the seventh year of the said term the sum of six shillings weekly. George Lane Sear hereby agrees to find and provide for his said son clothes washing and all other necessaries , and medicine and surgery and nursing in the case of sickness or accident. In witness whereof the parties above named to this indenture have put their hands and seals the 16th October 1863. Signed; Thomas Sear; George Lane Sear; Thomas Shepherd.
