    Apprenticeship Indenture: John Kemp of his own free will (and with the consent of his father Thomas Kemp of Great Linford, coal merchant, doth put himself apprentice to John Steers of Woburn, butcher. For the term of three years from the 23rd April 1850. John Steers in consideration of such faithful service as also in consideration of the sum of fifteen pounds to be paid to him by the said Thomas Kemp - five pounds part thereof immediately on the execution of this Indenture the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and five pounds on the 23rd April next ensuing and the remaining sum of five pounds on 23rd April 1852. His said apprentice in the art or trade of a butcher which he useth by the best means that he can shall teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed finding unto the said apprentice sufficient meat drink and lodging during the said term. Thomas Kemp hereby covenants to provide his son the said John Kemp with clothes and washing and also physick, surgery and nursing in case of sickness during the said term. In witness whereof the parties above named to this indenture have put their hands and seals the 24th day of May 1850. Signed; John Kemp; Thomas Kemp; John Steers. Witnessed by William Wiseman, Clerk to Mr Green, Solicitor, Woburn. Receipt on dorse for £5 signed by John Steers witnessed by William Wiseman, Clerk to Mr Green, Solicitor, Woburn.
