- Scope and ContentThomas Peck: on 22 October he had a bottle of sweet in his window. He had seen them there in the morning and missed them in the evening. PC James Haynes: he took Hart into custody on the evening of 23 October and took him to the police station. Smith was in custody. In Smith’s presence, he charged Hart with stealing the sweets. Hart said he had not stolen them but had stood outside whilst Smith fetched them and had been given half of them. They had thrown the bottle away on the side of the paths with lead to Stockwood. Smith said nothing. Statements of the accused: Thomas James Smith – not guilty Paul Hart – not guilty
