  • Admin/biog history
The first chapel was built in 1814 on the site of the future Sunday School and was increased in size in 1834. A new, larger chapel built 1852. The old chapel (with later extensions) was used as a Sunday School for some time and by the Wesleyan Day School from 1853-1877. The old chapel was demolished and new Sunday School buildings were built in 1880. From 1954 the Chapel Street buildings were used for Luton Industrial Mission and Community Centre which was renamed Luton Industrial College in 1957. The church became unsafe for use in 1956 and services were held in the Community Centre hall. The church was remodelled in 1960 and became known as Wesley Church. From 1976 it was transferred to a chapel in the heart of the College. Registration no.3457 transferred from the old Luton Industrial Mission to the Wesley Church, Luton Industrial College, 22 November 1976. The 1852 chapel was demolished in 1978 and Wesley House was built on the site. The College closed in 1996 and closure of the Wesley Church followed in 1997.
