- Scope and ContentWilliam Dines of Cardington, constable - he warned a gathering of over 100 people outside the Chapel in Cardington to be quiet and disperse. When they began to disturb the congregation he warned them he would put some of them in the cage if they continued. He arrested Thomas Cambers and intended to take him to the cage. Cambers was rescued by his brother George and Joseph Houghton. They did not strike him, but pulled him about. Thomas Cambers - he was going home to Cople about his business. His brace broke just as he got by the chapel. Mr Dines collared him as he stood there mending it. Dines pulled him along the road and hit him with a stick across the leg and punched him twice. His brother came and assisted him. George Cambers - saw his brother being dragged along. When he saw Dines hit his brother he could stand it no longer and pulled him away. Joseph Houghton - he did not lay hold of Thomas Cambers or push against the constable
